Stuff

The last couple days I have become increasingly angry and concerned about how much stuff and how many things humans have. That these things have become peoples lives and no matter how hard we try, it is always going to be part of the human existence. Things have become so vital to our lives that many find that they wouldn’t know what to do without their stuff. We collect things in our homes, in our cars, in our technology. We keep boxes and closets packed full of belonging just incase we may need them one day. Or keep books and journals in case we want to remember the past. Some are meaningful, the old pictures that we keep bring in some joy, the old jewelry or clothing that bring you closer to those that have Unknown.jpegbeen lost. Simply knowing that you can snap a picture on the technology that we carry can bring a sense of calm, knowing that you will never forget the moment or the image. Yet these are just things. People collect so many things. Its not always about the things, but the moments. Stuff has become a sort of status symbol and the things have become our homes. It is hard to think of disconnecting from that sort of living, and we don’t need to completely give up our belongings in order to collect the moments. However, decluttering our brains and our spaces, can make room for new moments to be shared and memories to be made.

“People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime”.

I recently heard this quote for the first time, and it seemed to come to me at the perfect moment. In college, new people come into your life every day, whether it be a new class, meeting a friend of a friend or passing by someone you used to know. In normal life it isn’t always that easy to meet new people, so the individuals that come into your life later on seem to have more of an impact. I have come to realize that its not so important how long someone is in your life, but if they have made you realize something new. Either about yourself or the world around you, and it doesn’t have to be anything philosophical or life changing. I have been meditating a lot recently, and my most recent meditation really helped to clarify this for me. That some people are just not meant to be in your life forever, but hopefully they were there for a reason, and to those who do stick around for a lifetime, the lessons that were learned from the people along the way hopefully will benefit those in the future.

Happiness

Happiness is a funny thing. It’s not always easy to find and never easy to keep. When you find your happiness you never want to let it go, but it only stays with you for a moment, then it’s gone. Finding your happiness and keeping it with you is the struggle I suppose. Yet is seems so easy for others to find and keep theirs. Throughout the days there is a glimmer of that happiness around the corner. Thinking about all the things that need to be done and the prospects of the future. So unknown and so daunting. Scared of making the wrong decisions. These ideas steal the happiness. Always waiting for its return but never keeping it for long. One day that happiness will stay with me for good.

Spaces and places

There is something so special about spaces and places. The way in which they hold your mind captive and grasp onto your soul. An alluring/ special scent or perfume of one place can bring you back to the memory of another. A certain image that was before forgotten but now re invented. Never knowing when the memory will hit or what space will be the  one to bring you back.

Use your voice to vote for who is right!

Now I understand that neither one of the two candidates has a perfect track record,  but there is 100% an individual who is far worse than the other. I also understand that  speaking out about political ideas could cause anger and judgements. However, Do you want someone running the country who does not believe that women are as valuable as men? Do you want someone running the country who believes that individuals should be judged upon first glance? Do you want someone in office who uses fear as a force of power? Do you want someone in office who makes crude remarks and jokes about the disabled? These are all realities about a certain candidate and these should not become the realities of America. There is limited time left in this election, but making the right choice for the future is critical.
